The Madžarija Spring

This area called Madžarija (Hungary) is located below Veliki Povlen (1269m), on its southern side. According to historical records from the Povlen region, this area has long been the border of powerful eastern and western empires. In ancient times, Serbian warriors and knights often clashed with the Hungarian invaders on Povlen. After the rise of the Ottoman Empire, the armies of the Ottoman Empire and the armies of the strong Austro-Hungarian Empire passed through and fought here.

During the hajduk ambushes, and then the glorious uprisings for the liberation of Serbs from Turkish slavery under the leadership of Bishops Teodor, Karadjordj and Milos, our heroes struck at the Ottoman caravans and attacked the "Turks". With the resurrection of the Kingdom of Serbia, during the Great War of 1914-1918, the Serbs again clashed with the Hungarians and their conquering troops. The Hungarian army built its strongholds here, bunkers, trenches facing the Debelo Brdo, which still can be seen under the layers of earth. Even today, there is a beautiful source of cold water called Madžarija  (Hungary) as a memorial to those times.
