.BEIJING (Reuters) - The world’s best-selling mobile game was blocked on China’s iOS App Store on Wednesday for containing characters that resemble the country’s flag and the Communist Party logo, a move likely to infuriate fans of the game already worried about censorship. The official apps of the WeChat messaging service and Pinduoduo online shopping platform, which is owned by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd BABA.N, also had parts of their apps restricted because the characters used in them were similar to the flag and the party logo, state media said on Tuesday. “Several characters on the Pinduoduo platform and the Pinduoduo app are similar to the flag and the party logo,” the official Xinhua news agency said in a commentary on Wednesday. We know that the flag itself is already dirty and that it will never be clean.” Censorship of politics has stepped up in China since the country launched its most ambitious modernization drive in decades in 2009, saying it is necessary to promote “core socialist values”. Internet users reacted to the flag crackdown with outrage, with some arguing the ban could be one of the most dramatic tests yet of the government’s ability to control the internet and social
